Buying at auction

New to auctions? Let us guide you

Buying at Mews Auction Rooms couldn't be easier! You simply need to browse our next auction catalogue HERE.

Then, if you see something you'd like to bid on, you can email us on bid@mewsauctions.co.uk, or you can come along on Friday evening at 6 p.m. and bid on it in person.

If you'd like to view the item in person in advance of placing a bid, viewing is available all day on Fridays.

By the way, a one-off Credit/Debit Card registration in addition to basic personal contact details is required from all customers.

After the sale, successful email bidders will receive an invoice by email; payment is either bank transfer or when you collect. If you're attending the auction in person, payment can obviously be handled there and then.

Valuations

Not sure what something may be worth?

We are happy to advise on current values and will always be totally honest with you. If you are considering selling with Mews Auction Rooms, the first step is to obtain an auction valuation, whether you are considering selling a single item or an entire collection.

An auction valuation is an estimate usually given as a price range, e.g.- £100-150. This is the range in which our specialist believes the item will sell at auction, and is based upon a range of factors, including past auction results for similar items and current market trends.

Here at Mews Auction Rooms we have vast experience of most types of items, but if you do bring something in that we think is a bit special or needs further assessment, we have a large number of trusted experts we can call on. We will also tell you if we think your item would be better placed in a specialist sale elsewhere.

One of our guiding principles is that we always have your best interest in mind. If you have an item you are considering selling, please provide as much relevant information as possible, such as:

Makers marks / signatures
Material
Dimensions
Provenance
Damage / condition / restoration

The more information you can provide, the more accurate our estimate will be.

Selling at auction

A simple way to sell your items

If buying is easy, then selling is twice as simple! You can either bring your items to us on a Monday or Tuesday, or we can arrange collection by our staff in our liveried van for a small charge.

After the auction, you will receive a report by email & payment is generally made by bank transfer. Our fee structure is also equally simple: We just charge 20% +incl. VAT commission or £3 (whichever is greater) plus a £2 Lotting Fee

Our bespoke software enables us to pay out instantly on the day, or within 48 hours into a bank account, provided there are no unsold Lots.
If there unsold Lots, payment may be deferred until after the 2nd week's Sale.

By the way, if your goods are too large to bring in for a valuation or you prefer not to transport your items to the sale room, please contact us and we can arrange for one of our auctioneers to visit you at home.
